Pink ribbons are seen everywhere this month as we celebrate breast cancer awareness. This month is a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies who work together to promote the awareness of this disease, while sharing information and providing greater access to services. Breast cancer Awareness Month was started more than 25 years ago. Several walks, runs and fundraisers are put together every year to promote this month among both women and men.
If you or a loved one has been affected by this disease, getting involved is a great way to show your support for others who have also been affected. There are several ways to get involved for breast cancer awareness.
- Partner with a Foundation: There are several available to partner with including: Susan G. Komen foundation, American breast cancer foundation, save the tatas, Fashion for a cure and many more.
- Join a Walk: What better time of the year than the fall to join a 5k. Walk, run or jog across the finish line while you make new friends and enjoy the feeling of supporting those with breast cancer.
- Donate: your time and/or money to a foundation that aligns with the same values you share.
- Talk About It: hang up a sign in your office, discuss exams with your female clients or support a cause openly on your social media networks.
Whether you have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer, this is a great time of year to show support for the cause. Getting involved gives you and your practice more exposure introduces you to meet new friends and gives you the feeling of accomplishment, knowing that you have put positive into the universe by helping others affected by this disease.
